Part-Time Worship Minister Job Description

The Worship Minister is a male or female spiritual and organizational leader responsible for planning, preparation and coordination of all aspects of the worship portion of our contemporary a cappella worship service. The Worship Minister will be the leader and teacher of our praise team, striving to present a consistently meaningful worship experience every Sunday. The Worship Minister must be a creative, fluent worship planner and a collaborative team player working alongside the Senior Minister and Worship Planning Team. The Worship Minister is to have a passion for people and music as well as a heart for the Lord.  

Competencies and Expectations

  • Spiritual leader with a heart for God and a servant heart for people 
  • Experience in leading worship and developing praise team members
  • Fluent in the language of music with sufficient technical knowledge to teach new songs
  • Creative experience leading worship in contemporary and traditional venues
  • Heart for spiritual formation of those in the congregation, worship committee and praise team
  • Relational skills and an enthusiastic presence for leading worship
  • Respect for and basic understanding of music copyright laws
  • Compatible with White Station’s position on gender roles
  • Must be a member or become a member of the White Station Church of Christ

Specific Tasks

  • Plan and lead worship for the 10:15 AM Fellowship Hall service
  • Rehearse with Praise Team on Sunday mornings 
  • Set up mics and sound as needed; recruit, develop sound booth volunteers and plan schedules
  • Plan and lead Tuesday night Fellowship Hall Worship Planning meetings as needed
  • Responsible for implementation of Fellowship Hall worship plans, flow and processes
  • Plan and lead Praise Team rehearsals on Wed nights weekly or as needed 
  • Provide training and development for praise team members and sound booth volunteers
  • Welcome all who indicate a musical interest to the praise team and develop an atmosphere of community where members experience personal and spiritual growth
  • Attend Ministry Team meetings if possible, working closely with the Senior Minister as needed
  • Deliver orders of worship and song slides in a timely manner to the Communication Coordinator
  • Assign qualified worship leader replacements when away on Sundays
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

The Worship Minister is to have a real relationship with Jesus Christ and is to be actively seeking a deeper relationship with Him. This belief is to be lived out in a way that is genuine and clearly evident to others. The Worship Minister must embrace working as a team player and recognize how essential teamwork is to successful ministry. The Worship Minister is expected to spend time throughout the year developing skills in ministry and sharpening knowledge and understanding in ministering to our church family through worship. The Worship Minister must have a complete understanding of the vision and mission of the COCWS working alongside shepherds, ministers, staff and volunteers.
